The second leg of the FIDE Women's Grand Prix Series 2024-2025 is taking place in Shymkent, with today marking the third day of competition. The event has brought together the world's top 10 female chess players from Kazakhstan, China, India, Germany, Greece, Bulgaria, and Mongolia. Kazakhstan is represented by Bibisara Assaubayeva. The total prize fund for each stage is 80,000 euros. The two players who score more cumulative points in the WGP series qualify for the FIDE Women Candidates Tournament 2026.
«For Kazakhstan, it’s a very great honor to have the opportunity to host this event because, as a Kazakh, I feel very proud of my own country for being able to do events like this on the highest level possible and for that, as FIDE, we would like to thank the Kazakh Chess Federation. The Women’s Grand Prix is being held in Kazakhstan not for the first time; previously, it was hosted in Astana in 2022. Apart from that, Kazakhstan has hosted a lot of different international events,» noted Azhar Amanova, Digital Marketing and Communication Specialist at FIDE.
