Short film by Kazakh director receives main prize at film festival in South Korea

The short film by Kazakh filmmaker Kamila Norussova won the main prize of the Yecheon International Smartphone Film Festival. The ten-minute film is about the international family and shows its characteristics. According to the plot, a Korean citizen and his wife from Kazakhstan do not understand each other well. But one day, newlyweds buy headphones that translate the wife’s words into Korean. The leading roles were played by the director’s friends, a student from Kazakhstan Aida Azat and Im John Muk from Korea. Norussova comes from Talgar. She has been living in South Korea for the past four years. In total, 948 films from 11 countries have participated in the competition. All of them were shot on smartphones.

“Many people learned about me after the festival and are already proposing joint projects. I plan to work in two countries. I mean, I like the landscapes of Kazakhstan. I want to go to Kazakhstan and make a really decent movie,” said the film director Kamila Norussova.
