Foreign citizens, including
ethnic Kazakhs, are now participating in the selection for a scholarship
program to study free at Kazakh universities. According to the country’s Ministry
of Science and Higher Education, this year, over 6,000 people applied for participation,
with 79 percent of them applying for bachelor’s degrees. The biggest
competition, namely 24 and 20 people per place, was among applicants for
doctoral and master’s degree programs, respectively. An online interview, the last
stage of selection, is now underway. The competition committee will make the
final decision at the end of August. It bears noting that the scholarship program
is one of the directions of implementation of the concept for the development
of higher education and science in Kazakhstan for 2023-2029, which allows
foreigners to study in domestic universities every year. Thus, the scholarship
was awarded to nearly 900 people over the past four years. This year, a total
of 550 grants were allocated for study under the scholarship program in
Kazakhstan.
