During the first five months of
2024, nearly 13 million tonnes of freight were transported by rail between
Kazakhstan and China, marking a 12 percent growth compared to the same period
last year. Also, Kazakhstan’s exports increased to eight million tonnes.
According to the country’s largest mainline railway operator, transportation of
goods surged by seven percent to 5.3 million tonnes between the railway
stations at Altynkol-Khorgos, and by 17 percent to about 7.5 million tonnes
through the Dostyk station in both directions. Kazakhstan aims to increase the
transit volume of goods from China to Europe fivefold.
