Program on implementing initiatives for urban infrastructure

Residents of cities in Kazakhstan will be involved in the implementation of the program for urban strategies ‘Berekeli Bastama.’ Now citizens can put forward their ideas and proposals for improving the infrastructure of their cities, as well as vote for their favorite projects. This was announced by Chairperson of the Association of Urbanists Q88 Yerlan Aukenov in the platform of the Central Communications Service. Submission of proposals for the development of two western cities of the country – Aktau and Atyrau – has been recently completed. 98 offers were published on the portal. Kazakh residents can vote for the most relevant project from April 4 to May 4.

“The main goal of the project is to involve citizens in the process of priority changes. They can offer any idea that they think will make the city better, from improving a square, building sports grounds, to organizing public spaces and creating conditions for mobile groups, to implementing transport reform or improving environmental factors in the region,” said Yerlan Aukenov, Chairperson of Kazakhstan Association of Urbanists Q88.

The next city that was selected for the program is Pavlodar. The submission of ideas and proposals to improve the city will continue until June 8. After that, residents will be able to select the best projects by voting. Work is underway to involve as many Kazakh cities in the program as possible, Yerlan Aukenov said. In addition to the aforementioned cities, the list may include Shymkent, Rudny, Aksu and Khromtau.
