On August 9, Astana will
host the sixth consultative meeting of Central Asian leaders and the first
summit of the Central Asia-Japan Dialogue. Ahead of these events, the
Kazakhstanskaya Pravda newspaper published an article by Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev
titled Renaissance of Central Asia: Towards Sustainable Development and
Prosperity. In the article, the
Head of State emphasizes the importance of the next decade in the region’s history, noting that relationships between
Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, the
Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, and
Turkmenistan have reached the
level of deep strategic partnership and alliance. The region’s political influence is growing, as
evidenced by the emergence of new dialogue platforms in the Central Asia Plus
format. President
Tokayev outlines several goals for the region’s development, including preservation
of peace and stability, further development of economic potential, transit, transport and logistics opportunities. He also stresses the importance of water,
energy, and food security, as well as such a valuable resource as the
young intellectual generation of the region.
