The working trip of Kazakh
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to the Karagandy region began with a visit to
the Qarmet metallurgical plant, whose production capacity exceeds five million tonnes
of liquid steel per year. Last year, the enterprise sold nearly three million tonnes
of finished products, with over two million tonnes exported. The Head of State
was briefed on the operation of the blast furnace for iron smelting, the
converter shop, and the continuous casting machine. Overall, projects worth
$3.5 billion are currently being implemented at the plant.
«We are planning to implement the
5-9-5 program, which involves producing five million tonnes of iron ore
concentrate, nine million tonnes of coal, and five million tonnes of steel.
This is scheduled to be implemented between 2023 and 2028,» said Vadim Basin,
CEO of the Qarmet metallurgical plant.
Large-scale modernization and
renovation are ongoing at the Qarmet metallurgical plant. President Tokayev
emphasized the importance of adhering to high standards of industrial safety
and transitioning the plant to natural gas. This will reduce its environmental
impact by one third at the first stage alone.
«We made the right decision by
inviting a domestic investor who has actively begun working. The situation at
the plant is significantly improving compared to what it was before. But we
should not stop. I think the main task is to revive the former glory of Qarmet
and give the highest priority to addressing social issues. I know that this
work has already begun. I will visit the plant every year to see how it is
progressing. I think we will reach leading positions,» said the Head of State.
President Tokayev also visited
the dispatch and analytics center, where the condition of all mines is
continuously monitored, gas levels are analyzed, and miners’ work is
coordinated via video link. The Head of State spoke with the miners from the
Saranskaya mine, who were working at a depth of 620 meters.
We would like to express our
gratitude on behalf of the miners. Most importantly, safety measures are being
followed, and the situation has improved thanks to the domestic investor.
Next, the Head of State visited
the Creative Technologies Center which provides all necessary conditions for
the creative development of youth, with robotics, auto-modelling, drones,
programming, and journalism sections. President Tokayev’s working visit to the
Karagandy region continued with a tour to the recently opened the Kausar Schoolchildren’s
Palace. Over 1,500 children are enrolled in various clubs and activities. The
center features a hi-tech workshop, a creative studio, a choreography hall, a
STEM laboratory, an eco-center, and sports and playgrounds.
