Following the meeting of the
Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and
the SCO Plus Summit, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with Mongolian President
Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh to discuss trade and economic cooperation, enhancing
transit and transportation connections, and increasing trade turnover between
the two countries. The Head of State emphasized the need to boost trade
turnover to $500 million. To this end, the parties intend to establish a
Kazakhstan-Mongolia Business Council and adopt a special Roadmap. On his part,
the Mongolian President highlighted Astana’s growing role on the international
stage and invited President Tokayev to pay a state visit to Mongolia.
The Head of State expressed
gratitude to Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty (People’s Council) of Turkmenistan,
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, for his personal participation in the SCO Summit as
the leader of the Turkmen people. He noted the significant importance of his visit
to Astana, particularly in discussing specific issues of cooperation in areas
such as industry, transport, logistics, and energy. President Tokayev also
conveyed appreciation for the support of Kazakh cultural heritage, including
the unveiling of a monument to the great composer Kurmangazy Sagyrbaiuly in
Ashgabat.
