Tokayev’s working visit to New York continued with a meeting with UN
Secretary-General António
Guterres. The two leaders discussed the agenda of the UN General Assembly
session. President Tokayev reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s commitment to supporting the
United Nations and strengthening its central role in promoting peace. The
meeting concluded with the signing of a Memorandum on the functioning of the
United Nations Regional Centre on Sustainable Development Goals for Central
Asia and Afghanistan.
On the sidelines of the 80th UN General Assembly
session, President Tokayev met with Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović. The
Head of State emphasized that Kazakhstan views Montenegro as an important
partner in the Balkan region. Next year, the two countries will mark the 20th
anniversary of diplomatic relations. The launch of direct flights between
Almaty and Podgorica, along with the introduction of a visa-free regime for
Kazakh citizens, has helped strengthen ties between the two nations.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev also met with Ukrainian
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who outlined his perspective on the situation in
Ukraine. The President of Kazakhstan emphasized that diplomatic efforts aimed
at finding ways to end the conflict must continue.
President Tokayev also held talks with European
Council President António Costa. He emphasized that Kazakhstan is committed to
strengthening its partnership with the EU, both on a bilateral basis and
through the C5+ dialogue.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev discussed the implementation of
the FIFA Arena program with FIFA President Gianni Infantino. The Head of State
expressed his gratitude to FIFA for its support of youth football and the
creation of modern sports infrastructure. In turn, Gianni Infantino confirmed
FIFA’s readiness to implement joint projects.
