Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev cast his vote at the
nationwide referendum on the construction of a nuclear power plant. Following
this, the Head of State held a briefing for representatives of domestic media,
sharing his expectations regarding the referendum results.
«Undoubtedly, today will be a historic day. Our citizens
face the choice of whether to support a nuclear power plant or not. The
referendum is a highly effective mechanism of direct democracy. Whatever
decision the people make, the state will be guided by their will. I am
confident that the right decision will be made. Indeed, this is a significant
event, and therefore, I support the holding of the referendum,» Tokayev said.
The Head of State also addressed the question of who would
be involved in the construction of the nuclear power plant if the citizens
voted in favor of it.
«This is not an easy issue. The government
should conduct an analysis and engage in
the necessary negotiations. My personal view on this matter is that an
international consortium should operate in Kazakhstan, composed of global
companies with the most advanced technologies. Ultimately, as the saying goes, time
will tell,» Tokayev added.
