Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev took part in the opening ceremony of the plenary session of the 23rd Boao Forum for Asia (BFA). This year’s BFA conference adopts the theme “Asia and the World: Common Challenges, Shared Responsibilities.” In his speech, the Head of State emphasized the important role of the platform as a center for dialogue and cooperation, especially amid the unprecedented global uncertainty. The tension in trade relations between the leading countries remains one of the challenges facing the global economy. Now, more than ever, the global economy needs new ways of development. President Tokayev stressed that the Asian region is moving steadily in this direction and is expected to provide 60 percent of global GDP growth this year. To date, Kazakhstan is the main trade and economic partner of China in Central Asia, accounting for 50 percent of the country’s trade turnover and investments in the region. Last year, trade between the two states reached a historical record of $41 billion. In general, 80 percent of all overland shipments between China and Europe pass through Kazakhstan. President Tokayev also highlighted the strategic importance of expanding transit and transport cooperation between Asian countries, including through the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route. Moreover, Kazakhstan is ready to cooperate with the neighbouring countries in developing the North-South corridor, the Head of State noted.
