Kuryk port may be included in the list of special economic zones, members of the Kazakh Senate stated during a working visit to Mangystau region. It bears noting that the volume of cargo transportation in the port increased by 2.5 times compared to 2021.
“The Senate together with the supervising agencies is working on the integration of the Kuryk port into the free economic zone. All relevant documents have been prepared. This issue is currently under review by the Government. The port has a huge potential,” said Serikbai Trumov, Member of the Senate, the Upper House of Kazakh Parliament.
“It’s obvious that the creation of the SEZ and the entry of the port into it is a necessary step. I think that this year we will re-conduct work on completing the process. We are expecting the autumn session of the meeting of the National Budget Commission. It will give an additional impetus to the progress of the Kuryk port and the adjacent territory. This may be a good future cluster for the development of some industries,” added Serik Akhmetov, General Director of the Kuryk port.
Members of the Parliament also met with residents of Kuryk village. The villagers raised issues on infrastructure development, in particular, the construction of a highway in Karakiya district. 11 billion tenge was allocated for this purpose from the state treasury. 5 km road segment is planned to be paved this year. The Kuryk - Zhetybai route is a connecting link of the international transport corridor. The cargo, arriving in the port, is transported along this route to Russia and Uzbekistan.
