In 1993, Michał Łabenda came to Almaty as a student. At the time, he knew almost nothing about Kazakhstan, but he decided to stay, learned the Kazakh language and, decades later, returned as a diplomat. Today, he serves as Chargé d’Affaires of Poland in Kazakhstan and is the guest of the new episode of Life of a Diplomat. We spoke about how Kazakhstan has changed since the first years of independence. We also discussed culture, business, the Polish diaspora and why diplomacy begins not with big statements, but with the ability to understand the country where you serve.
