Over the past 20 years, the Netherlands has invested more
than $125 billion in Kazakhstan’s economy. Prospects for further expanding
cooperation were discussed during the second Meeting of the
Kazakhstan–Netherlands Business Council held in Astana. The Kingdom of the
Netherlands remains Kazakhstan’s largest foreign investor and one of its key trade and
economic partners within the European Union. Bilateral trade turnover between
the two countries approached $6 billion last year. To date, over 700 companies with
Dutch participation operate in Kazakhstan. Significant potential for cooperation remains in
industry, mechanical engineering, agriculture, and transport and logistics. The Trans-Caspian
International Transport Route also creates additional opportunities for developing the partnership. Its
development is strengthening Kazakhstan’s role as a key transit corridor
between China and Europe.
«As is well known, Kazakhstan’s main exports include crude oil, petroleum products, and titanium. The Netherlands, in turn, exports machinery and equipment, including medical equipment for Kazakhstan’s clinics, as well as agricultural products such as flowers. Following the event, companies from both countries will hold one-on-one meetings that could lead to joint projects,» noted Dana Kassymova, Acting Chair of the Board, Chamber of International Commerce of Kazakhstan.
«Traditionally we have
been active in oil and gas but nowadays we are also very active in the water
sector, agriculture. And this delegation also brings companies in different
sectors like transport, infrastructure, logistics. All these kinds of areas are
very important to the Netherlands and to our cooperation with Kazakhstan,» said Nico Schermers, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Kazakhstan.
