President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s speech at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) in Shanghai received extensive coverage in the Chinese media. The Head of State addressed executives of China’s leading technology companies in Chinese. During his speech, the President emphasized that Kazakhstan has significant potential for the development of digital technologies and innovation, with artificial intelligence already being one of the key areas of cooperation between Kazakhstan and China. Chinese analysts believe that the adoption of AI will enhance efficiency in the oil and gas, mining, and financial sectors, while accelerating the digital transformation of the economy. Experts also identify the high level of trust between Astana and Beijing as a key factor underpinning further cooperation, creating opportunities for the implementation of new joint projects.
«Our relations have evolved from the establishment of diplomatic ties to a permanent comprehensive strategic partnership. This relationship is designed not only for the next five or ten years, but to endure for generations,» said Pan Dawei, director of the Center for Russia and Central Asia Studies at the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences.
Experts note that trade between Kazakhstan and China has doubled over the past four years. Bilateral cooperation is expanding rapidly in high technology, digitalization, and the localization of manufacturing. According to analysts, these areas will form the foundation for further strengthening the bilateral partnership.
«President Tokayev’s deep understanding of the Chinese
language and culture means that he is, to some extent, regarded as one of their
own by China’s political leadership. This has historically played an important
role in countries’ relations with China—and it continues to do so today. Such
ties at the highest level are also an advantage for Kazakhstan,» said political analyst Yersultan Zhanseitov.
