Kazakhstan successfully integrates AI into its economy, says expert

Kazakhstan has become one of the first countries in the world to develop a comprehensive artificial intelligence strategy. At a time of rapid technological advancement, this reflects a highly forward-looking approach, said Daniel Witt, President of the International Tax and Investment Center (ITIC). According to Witt, there is a need to create conditions at the state level for the development of digital innovation. He noted that Kazakhstan has successfully addressed this task, fostering the growth of both the digital and traditional sectors of the economy.

«You embrace the technology, you put in place the appropriate and proportional legal and regulatory regime and, as appropriate, a fiscal regime. And it works. Many countries, governments, parliaments block it. A year ago, at the Astana International Forum, it was around the time President Tokayev and the Cabinet approved your AI strategy,» Witt said.

An American expert also highlighted the importance of the Trans-Caspian transport route, in which Kazakhstan plays a key role. According to Witt, the Middle Corridor is increasingly attracting attention of various countries and is evolving into a global transport hub, ensuring stable supply chains between Asia and Europe. This is also supported by infrastructure development in Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan.

«Look at the development on your side of the Caspian. That’s remarkable. So, this vision that, you know, for many years didn’t go much beyond interesting World Bank feasibility studies, it’s alive. Look at the growth of trade flows. So, and it’s not just road and rail; it’s digital, it’s fiber optic cables,» Witt added.
