A photo exhibition entitled “Nuclear-Free World” and dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Kazakhstan’s Independence, as well as the 30th anniversary of the closure of the Semipalatinsk Nuclear Test Site has opened in Seoul. The exposition showcases not only photographs and historical documents. Visitors can also listen to Kazakh music and receive collections about the country in English and Korean. Photographs of modern Kazakhstan are also collected here. The exhibition was organized by the Kazakh Embassy in South Korea with the support of the Library of the First President. In general, the Koreans are interested in the experience of Kazakhstan’s renunciation of nuclear weapons, so that the event is popular. South Korean politicians have been seeking the same decision from the neighboring country – North Korea for many years. The nuclear threat on the peninsula has persisted for decades.
“Standing on the ground zero of nuclear test, I declared and urged nuclear weapon states of the world to make, to strive their best efforts to very nice, a world without nuclear weapons. His legacy will continue to live forever. In recognition and in appreciation the United Nations General Assembly on December 2009 designated August 29 the International Day against Nuclear Tests,” voiced Ban Ki-Moon, former UN Secretary General.
“The exhibition of photographs about nuclear disarmament is of great importance for Koreans. All Korean citizens are very eager for disarmament. We understand the most and respect Kazakhstan’s decision to have renounced nuclear weapons,” said Lee Jong-Guk, Vice President of Korean Foundation.
