Today, on the day of
the referendum, Kazakh citizens residing abroad can also cast their votes. A
total of 74 polling stations have been opened in 59 countries. Meanwhile, the work
of voting stations operating at the embassies of Kazakhstan in Iran, Lebanon,
and Israel has been suspended. Such a decision was made by the Central
Referendum Commission, taking into account the escalation of the situation in
the Middle East and the security threats to citizens of the country. Notably,
about 12,500 of Kazakh citizens are currently abroad.
«A total of 228 Kazakh
citizens, including 53 in Israel, 132 in Iran, and 43 in Lebanon, are eligible
to vote in the referendum. Citizens who are currently in these countries are
asked not to leave their places of residence, unless there is a particular need,
as well as to exercise caution and follow the news and the authorities'
instructions and maintain contact with the embassies and the Kazakh Foreign Ministry,»
said Alua Nadirkulova, Ambassador-at-Large of the Kazakh Foreign Ministry.
Kazakh citizens to be able
to obtain temporary registration on referendum day
It is worth reminding
that there are more than 10,000 polling stations operating in Kazakhstan. They
opened at 7 a.m., while voting began at 6 a.m. at 84 polling stations
established in military units and shift camps. A total of 12,244,683 Kazakh citizens
are eligible to vote. However, if any of them do not have a registration, they
can obtain it at the polling station on the day of the referendum. The service
will be provided by the employees of the public service centers.
«To ensure smooth voter registration at the place
of residence, the polling station address is shown as the place of
registration. All relevant records were created, and a list of responsible
persons involved in this process was identified,» said Rostislav
Konyashkin, Kazakh Vice Minister of Digital Development, Innovation and
Aerospace Industry.
