The nomination of candidates for the presidential elections kicked off in Kazakhstan. According to the Central Election Commission (CEC), the right to nominate presidential candidates belongs to the national public associations. They should present their candidate by 6 pm on October 11. Candidates will be registered at the CEC within five days of submission of the documents. To be eligible to run for the presidential office, a candidate must have Kazakh citizenship by birth, live in Kazakhstan for the last 15 years, have a higher education, be at least 40 years old, have a minimum of five years of experience working in public service and be fluent in Kazakh. It bears noting that the candidates will be equally allocated funds from the state budget to support their election campaign. According to preliminary estimates, it would amount to 10 million tenge.
“The targeted use of funds allocated by the state will also be controlled. The CEC will also monitor the receipt and spending of money from the candidate's electoral fund. The candidate must comply with all the requirements,” Sabila Mustafina, member of the Central Election Commission, said.
