Kazakhstan upgrades digital skills of teachers

A new course will be offered to future teachers - Kazakh pedagogical universities plan to include in their curricula an educational course called ‘Development of Digital Competences of Teachers’ by the ‘Orleu’ National Center for Professional Development. The head of the organization, Assel Mukhametzhanova, announced this during the press briefing. The course consists of four modules comprising 40 lectures and presentations, as well as over 30 video materials, tests and interactive assignments based on ICT, that is, information and communication technologies. The course started yesterday and is currently taking place in an online format. It is designed for both current and future teachers. The project aims to cover about 500,000 professionals throughout the country.

“In villages, one in four teachers needs to improve their digital skills, while in cities it is one in five teachers. Overall, 73 percent of teachers recognize the value of ICT resources and tools for students, and 66 percent of educators believe that ICT plays an important role in the professional development of teachers. A minimum five years’ experience in the educational organization is a mandatory requirement for the qualification of teachers,” Mukhametzhanova said.
