Kazakhstan is introducing an automated early
detection system for forest fires, with the first installation already
completed at the Semei Ormany Nature Reserve in the Abai region, covering over
650,000 hectares. Cameras operate round-the-clock, monitoring forest conditions
and detecting smoke. All information is automatically transmitted to a
situation center. Video monitoring uses artificial intelligence (AI)
technologies, detecting changes at distances of up to 25–30 kilometres. The
project, which is currently in a pilot phase, has been allocated 37 billion
tenge. Once fully launched, it is expected to play a key role in preventing
forest fires.
«This year, we will implement this system in
24 nature conservation enterprises, with some already being installed at five
forest farms in Semei. Installation has commenced in the Akmola and Kostanai
regions, specifically at the Naurzum Nature Reserve and the green belt around Astana.
The total coverage area is 102,000 hectares,» said Kazakh Minister of Ecology and
Natural Resources Yerlan Nyssanbayev.
