New bypass road to appear in Kazakhstan on border with China

A new bypass road will be built on the Kazakhstan-China border. Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov discussed the project details with Ludo Sarens, chairman of a Belgian company. The bypass at the Nur Zholy checkpoint is expected to ease traffic flow. The road will be 3.2 kilometers long and designed for oversized cargo weighing more than 100 tons. A bridge, parking areas, and supporting infrastructure will also be constructed. The investor will fully fund the project, with total investments around $50 million.

«Because today there’s a lot of congestion with all the traffic coming from China and going the other way. And what the idea is to take a separate part of land and all the other overdimensional cargoes coming in to there so that they do not use the normal border crossing. This will reduce a lot of congestion so that the normal trucks and visitors, people from China that come as tourists to Kazakhstan, have much better access. And we are very pleased to have the full cooperation of the Kazakh government,» said Ludo Sarens, chairman of Sarens, Belgium.

Chinese company to build industrial park in Kazakhstan

Prime Minister Bektenov also met with the chairman of a leading Chinese agricultural processing company to discuss plans to build an industrial park in the Turkistan region. Several enterprises are planned to be launched there. Construction has already begun on a plant with an annual capacity of 50,000 tons of dried vegetables. The investment volume has increased to $90 million. Additional processing enterprises are planned for other regions as well. The finished products will be sold on the domestic market and exported to the United States and the European Union.

«We have decided to invest in the Kazakhstan market, focusing on deep vegetable processing. The Turkistan region was chosen for this purpose. Relations between Kazakhstan and China are dynamically developing in all areas, including the economy. Kazakhstan has a well-developed agricultural sector, and our company has extensive experience in processing. I believe this creates opportunities for building a successful partnership,» shared Li Yantao, chairman of Qingdao Wanlin Food Co., Ltd.
