New apple orchards to appear in Almaty

New apple orchards will appear in Almaty. Fruit trees were planted in the metropolis as part of the city-garden campaign. This is the first step toward restoring Almaty to its former glory, organizers say. Over the weekend, residents planted about 8,000 green plantings, half of which are apple trees. The season for planting was not chosen by chance. Spring seedlings take root better, which means the garden will be fruitful. As noted by experts, the trees will stand for half a century or longer. Alleys have appeared in different parts of the city where other types of fruit trees, deciduous trees and shrubs will grow.

“Specialists from the Office of Ecology and Environment as well as contracting organizations responsible for territory cleaning were invited for tree planting which was carried out in accordance with regulations. Watering sessions are scheduled for every Saturday,” said Adil Tolegenuly, chief specialist at the Department of Public Utilities of the Alatau district of Almaty.

“We will greenify our beloved city of Almaty so it flourishes and delights the eyes. We want tourists to come to us and admire the beauty of the greenest city,” said Honored Figure of Kazakhstan Zhamilya Serkebayeva.

It is worth noting that green areas in the metropolis cover less than 1,000 hectares. It is planned to increase this figure to 3,500 hectares by 2040. During this time, at least 2.5 million trees will be planted.
