Kazakh President holds series of bilateral meetings

On the sidelines of the Foreign Investors’ Council session, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with representatives of a number of foreign companies. Among them was the American corporation Wabtec, a reliable partner in the country’s railway sector. The company has invested over $230 million in its development. During talks with Wabtec President and CEO Rafael Santana, the Head of State emphasized Kazakhstan’s interest in continuing strategic cooperation, particularly in the production of next-generation locomotives and the expansion of the service center network.

The Head of State discussed investment cooperation with Marco Mariotti, President of Philip Morris International for the CIS and Central Asia. The company contributes to sustainable development and the introduction of innovations. From 1994 to 2023, Philip Morris paid over 1.2 trillion tenge in taxes to Kazakhstan’s state budget.

President Tokayev also held a meeting with David Livingstone, Chief Client Officer of Citibank. The financial institution has been a reliable partner of Kazakhstan for over 30 years. The President emphasized the importance of the bank’s continued involvement in the implementation of strategic infrastructure projects. He also noted that Citibank’s support for small and medium-sized businesses would contribute to the diversification of the country’s real economy.

The Head of State also met with Gary Nagle, CEO of the Swiss company Glencore, to discuss key areas of cooperation, including the development of local content, the introduction of new technologies, and the integration of Kazakh transport companies into the global supply chain for high value-added products. Glencore is a shareholder of the mining company Kazzinc, whose enterprises are located in the East Kazakhstan, Akmola, and Ulytau regions.
