Mazhilis Chairman Yerlan Koshanov delivered an address at the
International Forum dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Victory in Volgograd. He
noted that around 2,000 commemorative events will be held across Kazakhstan ahead
of the anniversary, including a military parade in Astana. Koshanov emphasized
that more than 1.7 million Kazakh citizens were sent to the front, representing
a quarter of the country’s population at that time. More than half of them did
not return from the battlefield. 500 Kazakhs were awarded the title of the Hero
of the Soviet Union, over one hundred became full cavaliers of the Order of
Glory, and four of them were twice honored with the Hero of the Soviet Union
title.
«We have gathered on this sacred land on the eve of the 80th
anniversary of the Great Victory. This Victory unites all the peoples of the
former Soviet Union, symbolizing the triumph of the idea, freedom, and justice.
In this regard, I would like to quote the words of Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart
Tokayev: Kazakhstan has always stood and will stand for historical truth and
the preservation of the true memory of the bloodiest conflict in human history,»
noted Yerlan Koshanov, Chairman of the Mazhilis, the Lower House of the Kazakh
Parliament.
