On
May 7, Kazakhstan will celebrate a national holiday – Defender of the Fatherland Day. Across the country,
tribute will be paid to servicemen, veterans, and all those who contribute to ensuring
the state’s defense capability and safeguarding its
independence, peace, and security. This year marks
the 34th anniversary of the Kazakh army. Notably, on May 7, 1992, a decree was
signed to establish the national Armed Forces. In 2012, this day was granted
the status of a public holiday. Kazakhstan’s Armed
Forces include the Ground Forces, Air Defense Forces, and the Naval Forces. Airborne
Assault Troops also operate within the military. Since the 1990s, Kazakhstan
has participated in international UN peacekeeping missions in Lebanon, on the Golan Heights, Tajikistan, Iraq, as well as on the
African continent.
