Mangystau region set to launch new energy sources

The issues of increasing the stability of the electricity supply in the West Kazakhstan region were considered at a government meeting. Thus, a 500-kilovolt power distribution network, which will enable the integration of the energy sources of the Western energy zone with the Unified Electric Power System of Kazakhstan, is planned to be constructed in the Mangystau region. Besides, new generation projects will be launched, namely gas and hybrid plants based on renewable energy sources. Taking into account the projected consumption growth, a number of long-term measures have been developed. At the same time, the modernization of existing plants will be carried out. If the plan is fulfilled, electricity shortages will be covered via the Oral-Atyrau-Mangystau transit even when the Mangystau Atomic Energy Complex power units are shut down. This will allow for minimizing cases of consumer restrictions. Kazakh Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov instructed to complete the projects in 2024-2026, not in 2027-2028, as previously planned.
