The winners of state educational grants have been announced. According to Kazakh Ministry of Science and Higher Education, over 73,000 grants were awarded this year. More than 56,000 grants were allocated in 2021 for a bachelor degree. In total, about 80,000 applications were submitted to participate in the competition for grants. The most demanded areas of study are pedagogical sciences. The biggest competition for one grant place was among future political scientists and dentists.
“A third of the graduates did not score enough points to receive state educational grants. Such graduates will be enrolled in universities chosen by them on a paid basis. After studying for one semester, they will take the high school graduation exam, which will be held in January. If they reach the threshold score, then they will be able to continue their studies in the full status of students,” said Yerzhan Amirbekuly, spokesperson for Kazakh Ministry of Higher Education.
The number of quota grants for children from socially vulnerable categories was increased this year. Children from large or single-parent families, as well as those whose families are raising children with special needs, were more likely to receive the grant.
