Scientists from the SCO member
states are set to collaborate on joint projects. This year, the Organization
will begin awarding special grants to representatives of the scientific sector for
the first time. This was announced at the symposium «Cooperation in Higher
Education and Production Integration,» held as part of the Astana Summit. According
to Kazakh Minister of Science and Higher Education Sayasat Nurbek, the SCO
countries plan to open joint laboratories in the future. Also, branches of
several foreign universities will be established in Kazakhstan, including
Beijing Language and Culture University, the University of Hong Kong, and the
second Lu Ban Workshop, the Minister noted.
«China has made a special decision regarding Kazakhstan.
The country opens only one workshop in a specific country. Special
departments will be established at Kazakh leading state and national
universities. Now, our students will be offered Chinese as a second foreign
language. This is important because China is partner in both economics and
trade. Therefore, we must deeply understand China’s history, language, and
culture,» said Sayasat Nurbek, Kazakh Minister of Science and Higher Education.
During the event, the book «International
Cooperation of the SCO Member States in Higher Education» was presented. This
foundational publication focuses on the achievements of leading universities
from the Organization’s member states.
