In the Kyrgyz Republic, the grain harvest is
nearly complete, with only corn left to be collected. Farmers expect this
year's corn yield to surpass last year's figures, noting that such abundance
has not been seen in several years. Previously, they harvested around eight
tonnes of corn per hectare, but this year the yield exceeds ten tonnes per
hectare. The current priority is to harvest the crop before severe cold weather
sets in, as it could affect the quality of the corn cobs.
«By the end of September, we had harvested
almost 80 percent. Now, we have about 15 hectares left. Hopefully, we will complete
it today. Over 300 tonnes have already been harvested, and we expect around 140
tonnes more,» said farmer Islam Karimov.
After harvesting and cleaning, corn kernels
undergo several tests for moisture, protein content, calcium, and other micronutrients.
The proportions of these elements in grains can change depending on the harvest
time. Part of the corn will be used to produce animal feed, while the rest will
be set aside as seed material until spring.
