Kurultai elections to promote development of political parties

Elections to the unicameral Kurultai are set to boost political activity across the country. According to Senate member Evgeny Bolgert, competition among parties for voter support in all regions will drive the renewal of the political system, foster new ideas, and strengthen accountability to the public. In this context, the voter's role becomes even more significant, as their choices shape the composition of the highest representative body and help determine the country’s future direction.

«This will be a politically active season, making it essential to pay close attention to party programmes. The public will have opportunities to ask questions to deputies and candidates. There will likely be numerous platforms to ensure that dialogue between civil society and prospective parliamentarians is as effective, transparent, and dynamic as possible,» Bolgert said.

Mazhilis member Askhat Rakhimzhanov also predicts that the establishment of a unicameral Kurultai will strengthen the decisive role of political parties in the country’s legislation. He believes that forming parliament through party lists will increase public scrutiny of party organizations and the accountability of party members themselves.

«The entire legislative body of the Kurultai will be formed exclusively through party lists. That means all legislative power, shaped by political parties, will primarily reflect their positions. It will depend on the objectives each party pursues, their leadership, and the decisions they make,» Rakhimzhanov said.
