The Zhetisu region and China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (XUAR) will establish a cross-border tourism zone. The regions signed an agreement on its establishment at the first meeting of the coordination mechanism for the activities of the Khorgos International Center for Border Cooperation. Other plans were also discussed during the meeting. Thus, an industrial park and an airport are planned to be built within the Khorgos – Eastern Gate special economic zone, with the participation of Chinese and German investors. Furthermore, construction is already underway on an important facility for mutual trade - a quarantine laboratory for agricultural products. It will facilitate the implementation of a common standard between the two countries, and its authorisation certificate will be valid in both states. The facility is expected to be operational by next year.
«Our entrepreneurs face certain challenges when exporting animal and vegetable products, as these goods, such as honey, meat, and milk, require certification. Therefore, this initiative to establish a laboratory will address a significant issue and enable entrepreneurs to supply their goods to China without any hindrance,» noted Damir Kadyr, Deputy Chairman of the Management Company of the Khorgos International Center for Border Cooperation.
Investments in the center are growing, with over a quarter of a trillion tenge invested from the Kazakh side. The number of projects being implemented has also increased, now exceeding 40. Over the next two years, 34 more projects are planned to be implemented, with a total value of 240 billion tenge.
