Kazakhstan, Vietnam strengthen cooperation

The Qazaq Air airline will change its name to Vietjet Qazaqstan. The agreement was signed at the Kazakhstan-Vietnam business forum in Astana. A memorandum for the acquisition of the domestic airline was concluded with an investor last year, and all of its terms have been fulfilled. The strategic partnership aims not only to develop the industry but also to strengthen economic ties between Kazakhstan and Vietnam.

«This is a large-scale niche in which Kazakhstan is ready to develop an international hub. We attach great importance to cooperation with Sovico Group, which is completing a deal to acquire Qazaq Air. This will open up opportunities for expanding the fleet of aircraft and building modern logistics hubs,» noted Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister Yermek Kosherbayev.

As a transit hub connecting East and West, Kazakhstan is becoming a gateway to Central Asia for Vietnam. In turn, Vietnam provides the access to the ASEAN market. Therefore, the two countries are focused on expanding cooperation through the establishment of joint ventures. Currently, 13 companies with Vietnamese capital are operating in Kazakhstan.

«It’s the biggest construction company in Vietnam. And our plan is to enter Kazakhstani and this Asian market, Central Asian market. Our plans are to launch the project in Kazakhstan, to bring here competence in technologies, competence in really complex construction projects,» said Ablakhat Kebirov, Head of projects in Kazakhstan and Central Asia of the Vietnamese company.

The parties intend to expand cooperation in the agricultural sector and food industry. Vietnam, as one of the leaders in the IT field, may also become Kazakhstan’s strategic partner in digitalizing public services and implementing AI technologies. Additionally, the parties have reached an agreement on the construction of a multipurpose tourism complex in Kazakhstan.
