Kazakhstan expands transit potential

Kazakhstan is developing a network of efficient transcontinental transit routes. Currently, five railway corridors pass through the country, linking Chinese markets with countries in Europe and Central Asia. Over the past ten years, the volume of container transportation along these corridors has grown fivefold. The country plans to further increase these figures by focusing on the implementation of new projects. In particular, measures are being taken to increase the capacity of railway border crossing points with five neighboring countries. Currently, four railway projects are being implemented in the sector, with a total length of 1,300 kilometers.

«The implementation of these projects will increase the throughput capacity of the Dostyk station to 35 million tonnes, reduce cargo transportation time through the Almaty station, free up the Saryagash station, and increase the throughput capacity by an additional 20 million tonnes in the direction of Central Asia and China,» Karabayev said.
