Kazakhstan is set to construct the Center-West highway. The
route will link Astana to the Middle Corridor via Arkalyk, Turgai, and Irgiz.
In Kostanai Region, work has begun on the project documentation. The project is
being implemented as part of the Head of State’s directive at the National
Kurultai. The new corridor is expected to nearly halve both travel distance and
time. The route will span 865 km, compared to the current 1,500 km. The
transport network will cover 13 settlements. The road will have two lanes, each
eight meters wide, with a traffic capacity of 3,000 vehicles per day.
«This will be the third parallel road to the “Western Europe
- Western China” corridor, providing a direct link to the Trans-Caspian
Transport Route that Kazakhstan is currently developing. Additionally, under
the Head of State’s directive, a new road is being built between Beineu and
Shalkar, including the section from Saksaul and Shalkar, extending all the way
to Aktau and the Caspian Sea. This project will reduce the distance from 3,400
km to 2,300 km,» said Kazakh Minister of Transport Marat Karabayev.
«The International Corridor will serve as a link to other
countries and allow us to realize our export potential. Moreover, it will also
boost the development of industries and businesses in the area, with additional
infrastructure emerging along the highway, creating a multiplier effect,» said
Gabit Sundetbayev, Chairman of the AMANAT party branch in Zhangeldi District of
Kostanai Region.
