Kazakhstan’s chemical product exports exceeded $2 billion
last year, marking a 13% increase compared to 2023. The production volumes in
the industry also rose by 8%. The petrochemical sector showed particularly
strong performance, with growth surpassing 50%. This upward trend has continued
into the current year, with production volumes increasing by 12.5% in the first
quarter alone. At a recent government meeting, strategies for developing the
sector were discussed, with a focus on import substitution and export growth.
Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov highlighted plans to expand the production of
sodium cyanide and ammonium sulfate, as well as to launch projects for the production
of butadiene, urea, and polyethylene terephthalate.
«There are 12 large chemical and petrochemical enterprises operating
in Kazakhstan. They produce a wide range of products, including mineral
fertilizers, as well as inorganic and organic chemicals. The polypropylene
production plant in the Atyrau region is the largest facility of its kind in
Central Asia. The construction of the second phase of the project began last
year. Notably, it is the most large-scale project in Kazakhstan’s processing
industry, aimed at fully replacing imported products and increasing exports
with high added value,» Bektenov noted.
