Kazakhstan, EU take cooperation to new level

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held talks with EU leaders António Costa and Ursula von der Leyen. During the meeting, the President stated that relations between Kazakhstan and the European Union are at their highest level in the history of bilateral cooperation. The Head of State placed particular emphasis on strengthening trade, economic, and investment ties. He also highlighted the importance of expanding transport and logistics cooperation. This includes the prospects of linking the Middle Corridor with the EU’s Global Gateway initiative and infrastructure development in Kazakhstan. President Tokayev reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s interest in attracting European investment, technologies, and joint production, as well as in deepening cooperation in energy, digitalization, agriculture, water management, and climate-related areas. The President also welcomed the completion of negotiations on visa facilitation and readmission agreements. European Council President António Costa noted that he had carefully read Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s article published in Euronews and emphasized Kazakhstan’s role as a bridge between Europe and Asia. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated that trade turnover between the EU and Kazakhstan has more than doubled over the past ten years and stressed the need to remove the remaining trade barriers. The negotiations resulted in a joint statement and the signing of a number of documents.
