President Kassym-Jomart
Tokayev took part in the Kazakhstan-EU roundtable in Brussels, where he
underscored the strategic nature of cooperation between Kazakhstan and the
European Union. The Head of State noted that the EU accounts for nearly half of
all foreign direct investment attracted to Kazakhstan, while bilateral trade
exceeded $45 billion last year. Around 4,000 companies with European
participation currently operate in the country. Highlighting promising areas of
cooperation, President Tokayev emphasized Kazakhstan’s ambition to become a key
logistics hub connecting Europe with Central Asia, China, the Caucasus, and the
Middle East.
«We are investing
heavily in infrastructure, including the construction of thousands of
kilometers of new railways and the development of the Trans-Caspian
International Transport Route. These efforts align seamlessly with the European Union’s Global Gateway
Strategy, transforming the Middle Corridor into a core, sustainable artery for
secure Euro-Asian connectivity,» President Tokayev noted.
Notably, as part of the President’s
visit to Brussels, commercial agreements worth more than $12 billion are
expected to be signed. In particular, the Development Bank of Kazakhstan and
European financial institutions concluded agreements totaling $1 billion to
support the development of transport and logistics infrastructure. The Head of
State also noted that Kazakhstan is ready to supply 21 of the 34 raw materials
included on the European Union’s list of critical minerals.
«Kazakhstan is the world’s largest producer of uranium, supplying around 40% of global demand. Alongside our substantial reserves of oil, gas, and coal, we are actively developing green hydrogen projects. Furthermore, significant untapped reserves of lithium, nickel, vanadium, and cobalt lie within our territory. Ultimately, we offer our partners a pragmatic formula: investments and technologies in exchange for access to strategic resources, fully aligned with European standards,» President Tokayev added.
The Head of State also called on European partners to expand cooperation in livestock farming, grain breeding, and precision agriculture. He emphasized that the European Union is one of Kazakhstan’s key partners in science and education. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev noted that the discussions had once again reaffirmed the mutual commitment of the two sides to further strengthening their strategic partnership.
