Kazakhstan ratifies amendments to Nakhchivan Agreement

The Mazhilis, the Lower House of the Kazakh Parliament, has ratified amendments to the Nakhchivan Agreement. According to it, the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States will be transformed into a full-fledged international organization - the Organization of Turkic States (OTS). The document was signed in 2022 in Samarkand by the Presidents of Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Türkiye, and Uzbekistan. The new agreement expands opportunities for cooperation and integration among the member countries. The OTS aims to preserve history and culture, promote shared spiritual values, and strengthen cooperation among peoples.

«Additionally, within the framework of the organization, strengthening political and economic integration among Turkic countries, along with expanding cooperation in education and science, is a key priority. These changes will mark a new era in the development of the Turkic world, significantly enhancing multifaceted cooperation and fostering closer ties among the brotherly nations,» said Kazakh Deputy Foreign Minister Alibek Bakayev.
