Kazakhstan prepares for hosting World Nomad Games

Nearly 4,000 people will take part in the fifth World Nomad Games, which will be held in the Kazakh capital for the first time this fall. Athletes will compete in 20 national and ethnic sports, including Kazakh Kuresi (wrestling), archery, horse racing, falconry, traditional intellectual games and others. Astana is currently preparing for this large-scale event. For example, an ethno-auyl (village) will be created to demonstrate the rich diversity of nomadic culture, featuring exhibitions of the museum of nomadic civilization and the city of masters. In a recent interview, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev highlighted that the World Nomad Games in Kazakhstan would be a grand event in 2024.

“As we keep working, the number of countries willing to take part in the fifth World Nomad Games exceeds 100 to date. Preparations for the competition are currently underway. Repair work will be carried out at the Astana Arena stadium and the Alau Ice Palace,” said Ablai Kondybayev, deputy head of the directorate for preparation and hosting of the World Nomad Games.

The first three times the World Nomad Games were held in Kyrgyzstan, the fourth games were held in Turkey.
