Second multifunctional cargo transshipment facility launched at Dostyk station in Kazakhstan. The construction of an infrastructural facility attracted about nine billion tenge in investments. Approximately 160,000 to 320,000 containers can be transshipped here per year. The new infrastructure will also improve the speed of transportation from China to Europe, Central Asia and the Persian Gulf via Kazakhstan. The facility uses a unique high-end technology: the rails are positioned outside the major roadway, freeing the cross-border railway junction. A train from China carrying domestic appliances already departed from here for West Germany.
“Such massive infrastructure projects are primarily intended to increase our transportation capacity in converting from narrow to wide gauge. The number of transshipment stations, their modernization and ability to operate properly determines the volume of transit from China to Europe and Russia and vice versa,” said Timur Karabayev, chairperson of a transport and logistics company.
“It is a really important and significant event not only under the Eurasian Economic Union, but also throughout Eurasia. The construction of such infrastructure facilities creates new growth opportunities throughout Eurasia. China, the EAEU and European countries. These are new jobs, the development of mechanical engineering,” added Alexey Grom, Director General of the Russian United Transport and Logistics Company.
The volume of transportation through Kazakhstan increased by more than 20 percent in 2021. Over a million containers of freight were transported.
