Kazakhstan launches forest protection service

Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov signed a resolution establishing a forest protection service at the country’s Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources. It will increase the efficiency of forestry institutions during emergency situations, particularly in firefighting efforts, as well as improve coordination of government agencies, enhance the provision of special equipment and highly qualified personnel. The service will also engage in preventive measures such as forest regeneration and combating deforestation. Kazakhstan currently operates 15 national civil protection services, including firefighting, medical, chemical, radiation protection, engineering, and others.
