The bilateral trade volume between Kazakhstan and the Kyrgyz
Republic increased last year, reaching $1.6 billion. This was announced during
a meeting between Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov and the Head of the
Presidential Administration of the Kyrgyz Republic, Adylbek Kassymaliyev.
«The active political dialogue between the leaders of the
two countries has brought all aspects of bilateral cooperation between
Kazakhstan and the Kyrgyz Republic to a new level and ensured high dynamics
across all sectors. Trade and economic cooperation is developing. The heads of
state have set the task of increasing trade turnover to $3 billion by 2030. The
governments are continuing their efforts to implement this objective,» Bektenov
noted.
Kazakhstan is ready to increase exports by over $200
million. This includes 175 product categories, among them petrochemical and
food industry products, metallurgy, mechanical engineering, and
pharmaceuticals. The interlocutors paid special attention to cooperation in the
agricultural sector, which accounts for about 20 percent of mutual trade. The
countries are implementing a roadmap to boost agricultural product supplies.
Another priority is investment cooperation aimed at establishing joint
industrial enterprises. The parties also discussed water and energy
cooperation. Thanks to joint measures, last year’s irrigation season was
completed without any disruptions. One of the key issues on the bilateral
agenda is expanding transport and transit potential. Notably, Kazakhstan is
among the top three trading partners of the Kyrgyz Republic. The country has
invested over $1.3 billion in the neighboring country’s economy.
