Kazakhstan, Italy sign memoranda worth 180 million euros

Kazakhstan and Italy signed 10 memoranda worth 180 million euros during a joint business forum in Astana. The two sides agreed to strengthen cooperation in mechanical engineering, petrochemicals, agricultural processing, metallurgy, and the digitalization of logistics processes. The agreements also provide for establishing joint production facilities in Kazakhstan, with the expectation that their products will be sold to markets in China, the European Union (EU), and Central Asia. The forum also highlighted initiatives to boost bilateral trade, noting that figures for 2024 alone have increased by a quarter. This growth is expected to continue, as emphasized during the event.

«We at QazTrade are looking to promote the “Made with Italy” initiative to ensure these products are well received in the Italian market. In 2024, trade turnover between our countries exceeded 19 billion. Last year, our exports mainly consisted of traditional resources - raw materials such as oil, grain, and durum wheat flour - while imports were primarily machinery,» said Aitmukhammed Aldazharov, CEO of the QazTrade Center for Trade Policy Development.

Both sides stated that the Kazakh-Italian partnership marks a new chapter in bilateral relations, based not only on mutual benefit but also on technological exchange and the coordination of economic strategies aligned with global challenges.

«This day is very significant for us. Today, a number of memorandums were signed across various sectors. Our cooperation goes beyond the oil, gas, and petrochemical industries - strengthening collaboration in water resource management and agriculture is equally important. We are committed to continuing large-scale purchases of high-quality Kazakh agricultural products. Italy is focused on creating favorable conditions to further develop our bilateral trade,» said Antonello De Riu, Italian Ambassador to Kazakhstan.
