Kazakhstan, Indonesia aim to boost trade to $1 billion

Kazakhstan’s chocolate, saumal (fresh mare’s milk) and Aport apples will be exported to Indonesia. A number of agreements aimed at developing trade between the countries have recently been signed at the annual festival by the representatives of domestic and Indonesian companies. It is expected that under the agreements reached, products from Indonesia will also be supplied to the domestic market. Representatives of business circles from the two countries will further discuss the prospects for trade turnover in Indonesia in August.

“A unique opportunity has arisen to meet and talk to businesspeople from Indonesia about the possibility and expansion of products. We represent a domestic company, specializing in importing food products from Indonesia. Our company has been founded this year. There are plans to set up an Indonesian fast food noodle factory here,” said Bektas Medgatov, Director General of a food import company.

Last year, the trade turnover between the countries reached approximately $700 million. The parties are putting all efforts to increase the figure. There are plans to enhance the level of mutual trade up to $1 billion by the end of 2023.

“The main export from Kazakhstan to Indonesia is ferroalloy. And, from Indonesia, it is palm oil, also coffee and tea. Then, the next time we will be scaling up to the digital and creative economy. It is like films, games, and everything about the economic theme,” said Mochamad Fadjroel Rachman, Indonesian Ambassador to Kazakhstan.

Today, countries are actively cooperating in the field of tourism. Nearly 10,000 Kazakh citizens visit Indonesia annually. In May, the parties launched flights on the popular Almaty-Bali air route via the South Korean city of Icheon. Additionally, the states are actively working on the issue of returning to the visa-free regime.
