Ensuring food security is one of the
strategic priorities of the Kazakh Government. According to the Ministry of
Agriculture, the domestic market is currently fully supplied with flour,
potatoes, rice, pasta, lamb, beef and other essential products. The country is
80 percent self-sufficient in horse meat, buckwheat, cabbage, and other
products. The relevant ministry is steadily working on import substitution, with
new investment projects set to support these efforts. By 2027, it is planned to
implement 780 projects worth 2.3 trillion tenge, 170 of which will be specifically
focused on the import substitution of food products.
