Topics such as climate change, sustainable development,
promotion of renewable energy projects, and attracting investments in green
initiatives were discussed by participants of the IV ECOJER International
Congress in Astana. Traditionally, the event brought together experts,
representatives of government agencies, and non-governmental and international
industry organizations to find effective solutions and present their
recommendations for Kazakhstan’s systematic transition to a green economy.
Interim results of the PAGE program, which Kazakhstan joined in 2019, were also
presented during the event. Several UN institutions were involved in its work.
Over five years, with their assistance and financial support from several EU
countries and South Korea, comprehensive work has been conducted in Kazakhstan,
focusing on developing and implementing the country’s green economic
development concept and its energy transition.
«The first phase of our work in Kazakhstan, which started in
2019, will continue, and we will be focusing very much on the finance question
of the future: how can we get more financing involved in the green economy.
Kazakhstan has been engaging at the global level right since the beginning of
the Climate Convention, so that’s very significant,» said Angus Mackay,
Director at the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR).
«I sincerely hope that the recommendations developed
jointly—emphasizing the participation of civil society—will lead to the
concrete adoption of a clear plan for implementing our strategy,» said Lazzat
Ramazanova, Chairperson of the Council of the ECOJER Association of Regional
Environmental Initiatives.
