Kazakhstan and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the
United Nations (FAO) are expanding their cooperation in agriculture and water
resources. Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov and Viorel Gutu, FAO Assistant
Director-General and Regional Representative for Europe and Central Asia,
discussed the implementation of joint projects. Gutu highlighted Kazakhstan's
significant potential in the agricultural sector and emphasized the importance
of expanding cooperation for the sustainable development of rural areas.
Bektenov outlined the performance indicators and development plans for the
agricultural sector. Domestic agricultural products are exported to 80
countries. In the Global Food Security Index, Kazakhstan ranks 32nd out of 113
countries. Last year, gross production grew by 13.7%. Overall, Kazakhstan plans
to actively develop agricultural product processing and increase the share of
value-added products to 70%. Over the next three years, the country aims to
implement more than 600 agricultural investment projects totaling $4.8 billion.
Bektenov emphasized that FAO is a key strategic partner in achieving these
goals.
