Kazakhstan adopts AI Development Concept until 2029

A National Artificial Intelligence Platform is set to be established in Kazakhstan, with plans to annually develop up to 25 products across various sectors of the economy based on neural networks. Another objective is to deploy a supercomputer and train half a million AI-proficient specialists. Additionally, the share of universities teaching artificial intelligence is planned to be increased to 60 percent. This was announced at the Government’s meeting where the Concept for AI Development until 2029 was adopted. The document outlines priority economic sectors for AI application and sets tasks for relevant agencies over the next five years. This includes intensifying efforts to create necessary infrastructure, build advanced data processing centers, and enhance relevant legislative frameworks.

«In general, Kazakhstan has laid the basic regulatory framework in the field of informatization. However, it is necessary to intensify work on improving the legislative framework on artificial intelligence. Therefore, I instruct the Ministry of Justice to promptly review the relevant amendments at a meeting of the Interdepartmental Commission on Legislative Activities,» Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov said.

Kazakhstan to build four gas processing plants

At the Government’s meeting, Kazakh Energy Minister Almassadam Satkaliyev announced plans to construct four new gas processing plants in Kazakhstan, scheduled for launch between 2026 and 2030. These facilities will be established using raw materials from the Kashagan field with capacities of one billion and 2.5 billion cubic meters per year, the Karachaganak field with capacities of four billion cubic meters per year, and the Kazakh gas processing plant in Zhanaozen with capacities of 900 million cubic meters per year. Another priority task is advancing the country’s gas infrastructure development.

«Following the results of 2023, 60 percent of the country’s population, or about 12 million people, have access to natural gas. To further develop gas infrastructure, 89.3 billion tenge was allocated from the state budget this year. Moreover, as part of the government’s action plan, an additional 105.4 billion tenge has been allocated, enabling gas provision to over 300,000 people and the modernization of more than 1,700 kilometers of gas pipelines,» Satkaliyev said.
