Kazakh traveler dedicates his foot journey to World Nomad Games

A 74-year-old traveler, Sarsenbai Kotyrashov, is embarking on a new journey on foot from Oskemen to Beijing, dedicated to the fifth World Nomad Games in Astana. The expedition aims to promote the rich history and cultural heritage of nomadic civilization, according to the marathoner. Kotyrashov plans to reach China via Altai and Mongolia. After completing a 3,000-kilometer trek through Russia, Georgia, and Türkiye last year, he is now set to cover around 4,000 kilometers as part of a world marathon journey.

«I bring along a sleeping bag and a tent in case I don’t reach a settlement and have to spend the night in the steppe. Everything is packed in a suitcase fitted with small bicycle wheels, resembling a cart. I also carry a backpack with the flag of Kazakhstan and flags of countries that have friendly relations with our state, switching them as needed,» said Kotyrashov.
